Here is a picture that I took the weekend I was rafting the Tieton river near Yakima, Washington. I love the texture that is shown in the tree.

To start off with, I didn't like the cars on both sides of the picture, so I cropped them off.

Since the tree is very dark and I wanted that as my subject, I added brightness.

After that, the tree looked gray and the details seemed to fade so I brought up the contrast.
